Are We There Yet?

Stitchers Dream Day Out ... here we come! (or went).

Last Saturday was all about the drive down to Highfields.  First things first, it was time for a delicious morning tea at Goomeri to fuel the body ... followed by some browsing and of course purchases at 2 lovely patchwork shops to fuel the mind and fabric stash.

Next some tourist type browsing around Nanango before enjoying a yummy lunch at Yarraman. More browsing at Crows Nest before finally arriving at the Village Green in Highfields for some more shopping. A quick check in at the motel and then a stroll up the road to ... browse some more. We did say it was all about the journey and not the destination. Too often we're always rushing to get to where we need to be and missing all the fun along the way.

Sunday was all about our "Stitchers Dream Day Out" hosted by The Quilters Angel. Not knowing what to expect, we weren't disappointed with the wonderful arrangement that greeted us once the curtain opened.

Our gift bags contained 6 patterns and 1 mystery project selected from 3 lovely designers; Gail Pan, Nikki Tervo and Natalie Bird who were on hand with demonstrations on the day. Here are the girls chatting with Gail.

These are the project kits we found in our gift bags along with some other great goodies.

Cuppas, yummy food, great company, making new friends, lots of chatting and stitching ... then it was all over and time to hit the road again and make our way home.

Thanks girls for the best weekend :o)

Patchwork Where?

Nothing like a last minute run around to find a new location. Who'd have thought that in a small country town, all venues would be booked out on the one day? Thankyou to our wonderful Sandra who opened her home to a group of chatty women and their sewing machines. I'm sure everyone agrees that it was very happy day.

The kettle boiled, the sewing machines whirred and some had show and tell to share.  Margaret has been very busy sewing up some lovely gifts to send accross to her daughter.

( These are a lovely grape purple ... why does purple never photograph well?)

Fay and Narelle spent a lovely day out at Biggenden's Show and Tell and were lucky enough to win a couple of raffle/lucky door prizes . Not to mention a couple of purchases too :-)

Good luck to anyone who has entries in this weekends Art Exhibition in Mount Perry.

Margaret, Fay, Kerry and Narelle are gearing up to head to Highfields next weekend for 'Stitchers Dream Day Out', lets hope for some lovely Spring weather.  We should have some fun things to share afterwards.

Stay tuned to see where our next patchwork day on Thursday 4th October will be held. Nothing like keeping you all on your toes so check back here closer to the date for a location.

Friday June 15 2012

Friday 15th, a change of venue and the cold weather did not stop us. 5 of us enjoyed a day in the hall for patchwork. Printing photos on fabric was the mini workshop conducted by Patty which we all enjoyed.
We were well protected against the cold. Glad we are not there this week, with the temperatures even lower. Ironing freezer paper to fabric to allow the sheets to feed through a printer. Techniques were spoken about to suit all types of inkjet printers.
 Show and Tell,
Fay's candlewicking in progress. No doubt it will become a beautiful quilt in a few months.
This cute little fellow arrived under Margaret's arm only to open up and out came the knitting.
Patty brought this bag along. Her first effort at Zentangle quilting. She also coloured in sections with a gel pen. Hope to see more next time.
Next patchwork day July 11. Hope it's not TOO COLD in the Hall. Just bring along a few quilts to keep us warm. Don't forget our exhibit in the Mt Perry Art Gallery is not too far away.

Wednesday 16th May 2012

Our patchwork day, Wednesday 16th May went ahead at a last minute change of venue.               Show and Tell was brought along by Patty. She has been busy cleaning out her cupboards. She has a reputation for being a hoarder, but she has been reworking some of her hoarded articles. She could tell you the origins of each of these flannelette squares in these shaggy quilts. She has 3 daughters all grown up now, so she has turned their nighties and pyjamas into a shaggy quilt and bath mat. As she said " I have really got back to the grass roots in patchwork with these"

Having more spare time on her hands, she found some more unfinished items and went ahead and experimented. These 2 samples were of a machine embroidery tecnhique. The flower is shadowed with tulle and is very effective. The circles are a set embroidery stitch on her machine with a  foot that allows you to sew in a circle.
Machine applique and free motion stippling.
We shared a cake for morning tea brought along by the birthday girl, Kath. She brought her lovely granddaughter along to share the morning with us as well.

Next patchwork day will see a change of date. PLEASE NOTE in your diary, Friday 15 June.Yes, we know it is the day before some of us are attending the workshops in Gayndah, so we thought 3 patchwork days in a  row, BLISS.

Wednesday the 13th June is Mt Perry QCWA knitting and crochet competeition day and HOY in their QCWA Rooms commencing @ 9 am. More details available from Sandra.

Next patchwork day will also see Patty doing a tutorial on photo transfer to fabric. So start selecting your favourite photo to print onto fabric. Hope to see you all there.

A Quiet Wednesday

Last Wednesday was very quiet. Ruth, Fay and Narelle brought along their hand work and stitched away. Kath also came along with her sweet little granddaughter who had fun lining up the colourful reels of cotton ... perhaps a future patchworker :)

Ruth

Kerry is super busy at the moment with our local show on this Saturday and popped in for a quick hello and perhaps a secret check-up on our progress with show entries ;)

Fay

Narelle's mother and aunty also came for a lovely visit and to see what we were working on.

Narelle

Good luck to everyone who has entries in the show!

Sewing in the Rain

Rain is pouring down
Creeks are full and flowing
Narelle can't go to town
So she's at home and sewing.
